Try to find a last gen Sorento. You can probably get a nice one with relatively low miles for 20k. Or get a nice minivan with snow tires.

Xc90 w/V8 or Q7 w/V8.

I was going to suggest that, crappy resale so you can pick up a nicely loaded used one for the budget, they are surprisingly comfortable, and if you are driving it you don’t have to look at it.

We’ve looked at them. It’s our first choice but for $20k they already have 50k miles. If we went for a Hyundai we could get something much newer

Yea Thats not close to our price range. A $20K Q7 would not be reliable. This needs to be super reliable for me to bargain for the fj60.

Highlander: http://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/252184…

There’s lots of the mid-00s out there for less than $15k, you can get a 2010s probably for 20k. The V6 will run for 400k miles with just basic maintenance.

Or a Tribeca if you hate the people you're putting in the third row.

There are 2 near me 2011 for just over $20k but with about 100k miles. The goal is to have my wife’s need nothing more than an oil change. If she has that she will be much more willing to agree to the FJ60

50k miles is nothing to worry about anymore. You should be fine way out to 200k on anything built in the last 10 years.

How are the dealers for Ford and Hyundai around you? That should also weight in on your choice, if you aren’t going to take the car to a local shop you have a good rapport with.

That is one she’s picked to look at. We’re also trying to device between leasing and buying. She doesn’t drive more than 10000 a year

I happen to think the Flex is a great modern take on the old, original station wagon.

1. (15 Easy installments of)$20k

2. 8 Seats if you buy 2 (30 easy intallments in that case)

3. AWD so good in bad weather

4. Best fuel economy in its class. You won’t find a more efficient AWD V12 Hatchback.

5. Wife will love it

The choice is obvious. FF, brosef.

Leasing might be a good option as well. It all depends on how the numbers fall and your budget. Drop me a line if you need any help.

Mazda 5. You can get a grand touring with reasonable miles for 20k. They’re not luxurious or fancy because they are “old Mazda”, but they are solid, reliable, and comfortable.

Almost any modern minivan. Get power doors and rear gait. Minivans are designed for moving people. You can get a 2-3 year old Town and Country with leather and a DVD player for around 20k. Its a van. It moves kids around. Anything else is just a compromise on moving people. If you want a fun car get a fun car but dont try to get both in 1 vehicle.

How about a 2nd Gen MDX. You can get one in the teens, and put a 100k miles on it without losing much in depreciation. A $20k Hyundai will be worth $7k in a four years.

FWIW, the newer Chrysler vans seem to be mechanically ok in my experience. We have a couple of the cargo version (2013), both now have over 160k. One developed problems in the #5 cylinder head, but that was at 140k. We fixed it and it’s been 30k more and no further problems. The flex plates are weak but again, didn’t happen until well over 100k in both vans.

Fo’real doe, there is only one true answer. It’s a WRX, it’s a family hauler, it solves both your WRX and family hauling problems in one shot. The only down side is for your wife; you’ll never let her get behind the wheel.

Flex, CX-9, Veracruz, Sorento, and Borrego.

The new Santa Fe feels a bit overwhelmed with that many passengers.
